Documentary Premier
On Saturday, February 25, 2023 A Time with Isadora (ATI) premiered the documentary A Time with Isadora: How One Artist Influences Many. The premier was at Ciné, Athens Georgia’s independent art house cinema. The showing was attended by an audience of between 75-85 and included discussion with the filmmakers, a dance artist and the artistic director following the film.
The filmmakers are full-time students at the University of Georgia (UGA); Carrie Miller (director, editor and cinematographer), Margot McLaughlin (editor, designer, and social media manager) and Mollie Robertson (cinematographer), began filming for the project in April of 2022.
The discussion panel included Mercy Matthews (dance artists, Primavera, Dances for Isadora by José Limón), Mollie Robertson, Carrie Miller, Margot McLaughlin and Carolyn McLaughlin (director, Movement Arts Atlanta) and addressed questions submitted by the audience during intermission. Questions included “How much footage was shot during the project?” “Was it difficult for the artists to be filming and being filmed during the majority of the work time?” “What is next for the filmmakers and the project?” It was estimated that more than 24 hours worth of footage was shot for the project. The artists admitted that early on in the project it was uncomfortable being filmed and filming but as the project went on it became a regular part of the process. For the student film makers, all are planning on continuing their studies at UGA. For ATI, there will be a second showing of the documentary on March 26 at The Plaza Theatre and a performance of all of the dance works as a part of the Inman Park Dance Festival on April 29 and 30. Plans are also in the works for an outdoor performance in Olmsted Linear Park as part of the Olmsted Plein Air Festival on April 23.
